November/December Service Activities

We have quite a few service activities everyone can participate in via their time, talent or treasure. We specifically have slots remaining for assisting with packing holiday boxes for Valley Interfaith and providing the Cranberry sauce cans that will go in them. Also items for art kits and gift cards for the teacher appreciation lunch at Carthage Academy. Please refer to the sign up link below to help out wherever you can.

Light Up Sign Volunteer Opportunities.

Thank you to everyone who participated in filling sandbags this weekend. As you already know this is our biggest fundraiser of the year, so to make it a success we continue to need additional volunteer spots filled. We need your input! Please vote (refer to the link below) how you would like JWC to disburse the funds we raise for 2022-2023. With your input, we will divide funds between three groups: 1) Wyoming City Schools, 2) Wyoming Non-Profits (including City of Wyoming), and 3) Cincinnati Area Non-Profits. If you already submitted your vote at the October meeting you do not have to complete again but if you have NOT please submit your response by Nov 30,2022. It would be most helpful for you to submit the name of a non-profit that you are aware of that we can include on our list of contacts to reach out to.

Giving Tuesday 2022

November is the month to be thankful, and we would like to firstly thank you, the members of JWC, for all of the hard work, selflessness, and generosity you demonstrate for your family, your community, your club, and beyond all year round.  Without you we would not be able to disperse funds to organizations in need like we do each year.  You make Wyoming better, just by being in it.

With that in mind, Giving Tuesday is almost upon us, happening on November 29th!  We are asking you to help again, as you always do, by sharing any of the below, through whatever means you have (email, Instagram, Facebook, etc).  No donation is too small!  This is a quick and easy way the club can raise additional money for our amazing charities.

Light Up Wyoming

Sandbagging for Light Up will take place on Nov 12, 2022 from 9-3pm at Oak Gym. Despite its name the event is going to be awesome! Food, drinks, music and SAND! If you have not signed up already please refer to the SUG link to volunteer for this family fun volunteer opportunity

If there is inclement weather we will fill sand bags on Nov 19, 2022 instead. When you come to fill sand bags please bring a shovel ( a heavy metal one) not a plastic sand shovel. Refer to the picture examples below

A Special Thank You to our Fabulous Social Chair

Thank you to Kara Berling who organized a very fun and successful Fall Social (Barre to Bar), which also happened to have turned into a fundraiser. We partnered with the “W” Lounge to earn tips from our gues bartenders ( our members Katie Conrad, Beth Brigger, and Ellen Michael ). Everyone looked awesome rocking their 80’s themed workout attire.

Barre to Bar Fall Social

Our Fall Social (” 80’s themed Barre to Bar) is next week on November 3, 2022 at 6pm. Pull out your crop tops, leotards, shiny spandex and fishnet stockings for an 80’s themed Barre to Bar activity. We will participate in a Barre workout (led by a certified Barre instructor) on the village green then head to the W lounge for post workout spirits and mingling thereafter. Don’t forget to bring a friend, 2-3lb dumbells, yoga mat, gripper socks (if you have them). Inclement weather location will be the civic center. Please check emails and facebook for correspondence. We hope to see you there!!!

Light Up Wyoming

A Special Thank You From Our Service Chair

Thank You Thank You Thank You to everyone for the awesome work with Sweet Cheeks Diaper Bank. We wrapped up over 2400 diapers and will be donating in all close to 3000. Please be on the lookout for signing up to volunteer with Heartfelt Tidbits in the coming month. They are still in need of volunteers for their fine art classes at Carthage Academy. New SUG coming out the first week of November.

Fall Social (Barre to Bar!!)

Please save the date for November 3, 2022 at 6pm. Pull out your crop tops, leotards, shiny spandex and fishnet stockings for an 80’s themed Barre to Bar activity. We will participate in a Barre workout (led by a certified Barre instructor) on the village green then head to the W lounge for post workout spirits and mingling thereafter. We have the opportunity to partner with the W lounge to provide a member of the club as a guest bartender. All tips will be donated back to JWC’s fundraising initiatives

Fall Festival and Mums

Many thanks to everyone who made our presence at the Fall Festival and Mums Operations a success. It was well received by the community and we were very close to matching what we raised last year (considering our sales window was shorter).

We discussed at the September General Body meeting that we will be conducting stay and exit interviews amongst our membership to obtain data which will help the FOJWC (Future of Joint Women’s Collaborative) committee’s efforts for creating a more unified and inclusive organization. Thank you to everyone who signed their name as being willing to participate in a stay survey. We have enough members to pull data from. The FOJWC committee will wait a couple of more weeks to reach out to past members after we assess as to whether everyone that has intended to participate in the current 2022-2023 club year has already registered. The Mum Sale has officially ended. Thank you to the Mums committee for all of their hard work in leading a successful fundraiser. But the work is not totally all done. The committee would appreciate all available hands to assist in the Mums delivery operation on October 2, 2022. The committee will have a brief meeting after the September general body meeting to go over some action steps for the big day.

Time is winding down and there are only 4 days left to order MUMs. We have to get the final order in to the grower by 9/12/22. Please share the order link

Our first fundraiser of the year has officially kicked off. The last day to place an order is Sunday Sept 11, 2022 for delivery. That is only 12 days from now. Meeting Sitters Needed

This year the board is trialing out the idea of providing sitters for members in need of childcare during the meetings. We have not formally decided how this would be arranged and under what terms however to start we need responsible teens who could use the service hours and some extra change. Service Updates

Please plan to attend JWC’s booth at the fall festival on Saturday Oct 1,2022. A sign-up genius will be forthcoming for volunteers to man the booth. We will be spreading the good word about our programs and events to members of the community.

There will also be additional sign up links for a book drive to benefit Carthage Academy, volunteers to manage the costume swap and donations and Friends of the Public library service tasks that will take place at the September meeting.

Our biggest fundraiser of the year is in need of 2 additional co-chairs to lead the operation of this historic fundraiser that has been around for decades. The Fundraising committee begins preparations in October and the time commitment runs through mid December (around the holidays). Here is what to expect as far as the tasks that are split amongst the committee

-Recruiting and managing volunteers via sign up genius for various tasks which include sand-bagging, kit making, flyer and kit distribution and kit sales

Board Retreat

This past weekend from Friday 8/19- Saturday 8/20 the JWC Board met for a night of fun and day of club year planning and strategizing. It was very successful, and it allowed us to be unified in our mission and how we plan to implement various new ideas for our fundraisers and service projects for the upcoming year. We are looking forward to making a greater impact in our community and growing within our membership.

New Member Meet and Greet

Today is the day for the New Member Meet and Greet which will take place August 24, 2022 from 7-9pm at Emma Bernay’s house (415 Worthington Ave). It’s not too late to notify a woman in our community who may be interested in joining JWC. This is a great opportunity for prospective new members to meet members of the board and understand JWC’s mission and programs. Gratitude and Appreciation

On behalf of the board, we want to thank everyone who was able to contribute their time and efforts to putting up the tree ribbons around the city as a sign of solidarity and support for the Otten Family. We came together to show our club member Michelle that our hearts and thoughts are with her and her family during this difficult time. Please continue to keep them in your prayers.
